Saudi Arabia Implements Easy Visa Management System

Saudi Arabia has recently introduced a more streamlined system for managing exit/re-entry visas for expatriates. The Saudi General Directorate of Passports has enabled employers to cancel these visas through the Absher platform, an electronic government system.

This online cancellation process is directly integrated with the employer’s account, ensuring a rapid and seamless procedure. It’s essential to be aware, however, that the fees associated with issuing these visas are non-refundable.

Key Highlights:

  • For an exit/re-entry visa, a passport must remain valid for at least 90 days, and for a final exit visa, it should be valid for 60 days.
  • Converting an exit/re-entry visa to a final exit visa is only feasible within Saudi Arabia.
  • The General Directorate of Passports is actively encouraging the utilization of digital services on the Absher platform. These services include the issuance and renewal of iqamas (residency permits), as well as the issuance of exit/re-entry and final exit visas. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader digital transformation goals.

Recent adjustments to visa regulations in Saudi Arabia have enhanced flexibility for foreign residents. Those with exit/re-entry visas can now return to the country until the last day of their visa’s validity. Moreover, visa holders can extend their visas online while abroad by paying the required fees through the Absher platform or the Muqeem portal.

It’s crucial for visa applicants to possess a valid passport for the stipulated duration. It’s important to note that converting from an exit/re-entry visa to a final exit visa is not permitted if the individual is outside the kingdom.

With a substantial expatriate community, Saudi Arabia is home to approximately 13.4 million foreigners, constituting 41.5% of the total population. These recent measures aim to enhance the experience for expatriates, streamline visa processes, and embrace digital solutions for administrative tasks.
