The rise in incidents, according to sources, necessitates quick action to control the number of stray dogs and protect public safety.

According to authorities, Punjab has recorded the greatest number of dog bite incidents—5,259—in an alarming rise in dog bite instances.

According to sources, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 635 cases, Balochistan 110, Azad Kashmir 66, and Gilgit Baltistan one. Sindh, on the other hand, reported 1,886 cases.

An important step forward was the introduction of DowRab, an anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) by the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in Karachi, for victims of dog bites in Sindh.

According to the statistics, a million or more people in Pakistan are bitten by stray dogs annually, resulting in 5,000–6,000 rabies deaths.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad reports that the nation requires more than 2 million doses of the anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) annually, with a large amount coming from imports from India.

Due to price disagreements, Pakistan is currently experiencing a severe scarcity of anti-rabies vaccines (ARV).
