Latif Tips Babar for T20 Success

Former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif suggested to Babar Azam that Mohammad Rizwan should be given gloves behind the stump.

“One of Pakistan’s most pressing problems is Azam Khan’s wicketkeeping. There are two wicketkeepers on the team: Muhammad Rizwan and Usman Khan. Rashid Latif stated following Pakistan’s T20I series loss to England that Babar Azam ought to give way to Mohammad Rizwan for the wicket-keeping position because the latter is the more experienced player.

He claimed that after four years of holding the wicket for Muhammad Rizwan, he was abruptly removed.

Pakistan’s main issue is that they are not getting their combination correct. In addition to shuffling, players in T20 cricket now have to be ready to play floating roles depending on the circumstances of the match, said Rahid Latif.

The former captain stated that the wicketkeeper’s advice is very important for the captain of any team.

“Myself and Moin Khan have done wicketkeeping in many matches and used to oversee the match from behind the wicket. If the man standing behind the stumps (wicketkeeper) starts dropping catches, how would he advice the captain,” he added.

Rashid Latif also criticised the management for changing the opening pair, saying that first they broke the pair of Babar Azam and Mohamamad Rizwan.

He said that then the spinners were changed and now Mohammad Rizwan is removed from the wicketkeeping role.

It is important to note that Azam Khan, the wicketkeeper, did not have the best of series against England, either in the gloves or at bat.

Former cricket players have chastised him ever since he lost catches and failed to score big.
