While hearing the May 9 cases filed in several Lahore police stations, ATC Judge Khalid Arshad approved the physical remand.
Additionally, the court granted the investigating team permission to question Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Adiala Jail through June 10. Qureshi made his virtual presence via WhatsApp call from Adiala Jail.
The event occurred a few days after the PTI’s founder Imran Khan and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were found not guilty in the cipher case by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
After allowing the pleas of the former prime minister and diplomat against their convictions in the case, IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb issued the brief verdict.
Because of Imran’s sentencing in the Iddat case and Qureshi’s detention in the most recent May 9 charges, it was not anticipated that the two would be released from prison. Qureshi is under physical remand until Wednesday, June 5, while the Iddat case was moved to a different judge today.
Imran and Qureshi were both given 10-year prison terms by a special court constituted under the Official Secrets Act in January, following Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain’s appointment of a state attorney on their behalf.
Following the arrest of the former prime minister Imran Khan on May 9, 2023, violent conflicts broke out throughout Pakistan.
