The IBO in Dera Ismail Khan District was carried out by security personnel in response to reports of terrorist activity, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

“Intense fire exchange occurred between own troops and terrorists during the operation, resulting in the death of terrorist Muhammad Sohail,” the ISPR stated.

He was still “actively involved in numerous terrorist activities, including the targeted killing of innocent civilians,” the statement continued. He was also found to be in possession of explosives, weapons, and ammo.

The ISPR said that a sanitization effort was underway to get rid of any further terrorists that could have been present. According to the ISPR, Pakistan’s security services “are determined to wipe out the threat of terrorism from the country.” The operation takes place in the midst of an increase in terrorist attacks nationwide, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the government-broken truce with the banned militant organization Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.

Earlier on February 17, during two distinct intelligence-based operations (IBO) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, security forces killed nine militants, including two well-known terrorists.

The ISPR reports that the security forces killed two prominent terrorists, Rehmat Ullah alias Badar Mansur and Amjad alias Babri, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Tank District.

Seven militants were slain by security personnel in a fierce gunfight during another operation in the South Waziristan District.
