Riding high on investor excitement and active trading, the market opened strongly. But as the day wore on, profit-taking took hold and eroded those initial gains.
The index ended the session at 78,810 points, managing to scrape by a small gain of 8 points in spite of the profit-taking.

A total of 460 million shares, or Rs 20 billion in market value, were exchanged. All things considered, the day’s results were uneven: 137 companies experienced increases in their share prices, 237 witnessed decreases, and 61 saw no change in their share prices.
