During the recently finished Indian Premier League (IPL), the left-handed batsman was in excellent form. In an ICC T20 World Cup 2024 warm-up match against Australia, he hit 75 runs in 25 balls. The West Indian cricket team won their first T20 World Cup in 2012, led by Daren Sammy. They became the first team to do this when they repeated their victory in 2016. Since then, the squad has worked hard to duplicate that winning magic, particularly since the USA and the West Indies will be sharing hosting of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Shortly after their second T20 World Cup victory, new player Nicholas Pooran stated that the team wanted to win the championship again, this time in front of their home crowd.

Pooran, who succeeded Kieron Pollard as white-ball captain in May 2022, thought back on the disappointment of their early 2022 World Cup elimination. But he also highlighted his colleagues’ and his own personal development since then, emphasising their will to atone.

Pooran recognised the shift in the team chemistry as they prepared for the upcoming competition, highlighting their level of maturity and comprehension of the game as a whole.

On June 2, the West Indies, under the command of Rovman Powell, will begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea in Guyana with high hopes for success.
