The proposed bill, put out by MNA Noor Alam Khan of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan, proposed changes to Articles 177, 193, and 208 of the 1973 Constitution.
The proposed measure states that no one with dual citizenship or nationality may be nominated to the Supreme Court or any of the High Courts as a judge.
Through the draft, the National Assembly was also asked to prohibit dual nationals from being appointed, much alone employed, at any court.
The measure stipulated that “those having dual nationality or citizenship of another country should not be appointed to any court.”
The bill’s sponsor, Noor Alam Khan, insisted that the purpose of the measure is to “ensure” judges’ allegiance to the state in accordance with the Constitution.
