This action was taken in response to the NAB Executive Board’s decision to end the continuing investigation into possible misconduct in the wheat procurement process. The NAB amendment law permitted the investigation’s closure, and the NAB recommended that the case be forwarded to the Anti-Corruption Punjab for additional procedures. The National Bureau of Investigation (NAB) officials were concerned with probing corruption in the food sector involving billions of rupees, in addition to looking into the theft of thousands of wheat sacks.

Other officials from the food department, such as the Secretary of Food and Agriculture, were mentioned in the corruption pertaining to the Ramadan package, along with other lawmakers. Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, a senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), asked earlier this month that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) look into the wheat import scandal. In his remark, PPP Secretary-General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari said that the national exchequer lost billions of rupees due to wheat imports despite Pakistan having an excess supply. The head of the PPP encouraged the NAB to look into the wheat scam and bring the information to the public’s attention.
Commenting on the PML-N’s invitation to PPP to join the federal government, Bukhari said his party is committed to supporting the PML-N-led government in the Parliament without being part of the government.
