1. Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 is the most recent game to be released and find a place in the top 10. Up to December 2023, Rockstar’s western epic sold more than 61 million copies.
2. PUBG
It’s not unexpected that Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) has achieved such enormous sales success, considering its pivotal role in the battle royale genre’s ascent over the past five years. According to Krafton creative director Dave Curd, as of December 2021, PUBG had sold 75 million copies, as reported by The Verge. Given that it becomes available for free play a month later in January 2022, that will probably be the shooter’s last sales total.
It’s important to note that, as of March 2021, PUBG Mobile had been downloaded more over 1 billion times, even if free mobile downloads are not included in the sales total.
3. Grand Theft Auto V
Greatest-selling console/PC game of all time (mobile versions are available for the top two spots on this list). As of December 2023, more than 195 million copies of Rockstar’s most ambitious GTA to date had been sold. Between 2013 and 2022, the sales totals for the game across three platform generations and the PC are compiled into that figure.
As of 2018, GTA 5 was the fastest-selling entertainment title across all media to surpass $1 billion in retail sales. Since then, it has brought in billions more for Rockstar and Take-Two, making it the most lucrative entertainment release ever. The franchise has sold 420 million units overall.
GTA 6 is currently being developed by Rockstar.

4. Minecraft
As of October 2023, Mojang revealed during this year’s Minecraft Live that the game had sold over 300 million copies (via Windows Central). The total sales across all of Minecraft’s platforms are represented by that number. Few games have surpassed Minecraft in terms of medium transcendence, with adaptations for the big screen, Netflix, education, toys, and a host of other media already produced or in development.
5. Tetris
With 520 million copies sold, Tetris is easily near the top of the list of all-time bestsellers and is arguably the most timeless video game ever made, according to The Tetris Company. Sales on all platforms are included in that figure, with mobile accounting for the bulk (425 million paid mobile downloads as of 2014, according to Henk Rogers, general director of The Tetris Company).
The iconic puzzle game Tetris was first produced for the Soviet Union-developed Elektronika 60 computer. Since then, it has been ported to more than 50 platforms. Notably, it contributed to the Game Boy’s ultimate 35 million copies sold on Nintendo’s portable device being sold.
