Senator Ishaq Dar's Return to Federal Cabinet as Finance Minister

Senator Irfan Siddiqui, renowned for his close ties with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, asserted that Senator Ishaq Dar is poised to rejoin the federal cabinet as the Minister for Finance and Revenue.

He informed journalists that Dar is anticipated to retire from the Senate in March 2024 but will promptly seek re-election, as per a local newspaper’s report.

Additionally, regarding other positions currently under consideration in the new government, the senator clarified that Dar’s chances of assuming the role of Senate chairman are slim.

He expressed strong confidence in Dar’s comeback and predicted his likelihood of assuming a significant role in the federal cabinet, with a high probability of being appointed as the finance minister.

It’s worth noting that besides Ishaq Dar, the top ten candidates vying to lead the Finance Division include Suleman Shahbaz, Ehsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Naveed Qamar, Saleem Mandviwala, Khalid Mansoor, Dr. Waqar Masood, Dr. Raza Baqir, Dr. Hafeez Sheikh, and Dr. Shamshad Akhtar. The latter five individuals on the list are technocrats who have previously held pivotal positions in economic ministries or served as central bank governors.
