Poll Results Show: Biden or Trump – Who’s Leading the Pack?

In the eight-day survey, which ended on Tuesday, about 40% of registered voters said they would support Democratic candidate Joe Biden if the election were held today. The same percentage chose former President Trump. The dead heat barely moved from Biden’s one-point advantage in a Reuters/Ipsos poll taken on April 29–30.

With nearly six months until the election on November 5, the survey’s margin of error for registered voters was about two percentage points, and many voters are still undecided.

In the survey, about 20% of registered voters stated they had not chosen a candidate, were inclined to support third parties, or might not cast a ballot at all.

The poll found 13% of respondents would pick Robert Kennedy Jr., an anti-vaccine activist running as an independent, if he were on the ballot with Trump and Biden. The prior poll conducted in April showed Kennedy with 8% support.

According to a previous Reuters/Ipsos poll, the vast majority of Americans thought the accusations were serious. Trump has denied having such an encounter and entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.

In the other trials, there are allegations that Trump attempted to reverse his election defeat in 2020 or that, after leaving office in 2021, he improperly handled confidential records. To every charge, Trump has entered a not guilty plea.

Biden’s liabilities include concerns about his age – 81 – as well as strong criticism from a slice of his Democratic Party over his support of Israel’s war on Hamas militants. Protests have roiled U.S. universities in recent weeks, fueling concerns among Democrats that some young voters could turn against Biden.

The poll, which asked respondents across the country, offered a variety of methods to gauge support for Biden and Trump (77), and the majority suggested a tight contest.

When respondents were not given the opportunity to vote for a third-party candidate or to declare they were unsure who to pick, they tied at 46% apiece among registered voters, with 8% choosing not to respond to the question. Biden led by just three points among registered voters who said they were positive they would cast a ballot in November. In 2020, Biden beat Trump in the presidential election, with only two-thirds of eligible voters casting ballots.
