PML-N Set to Unveil Interim Party President on May 18

As per the sources, the CWC will select an interim president for the party following Shehbaz Sharif’s resignation.

Both current prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and previous prime minister Nawaz will speak during the CEC meeting.

It is important to note that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif resigned on Monday.

In a recent news conference, Rana Sanaullah stated that the PML-N Punjab branch has asked Nawaz Sharif to take up the party presidency once more, stressing the importance of his leadership to the party’s achievements.

He stated that a resolution asking Nawaz Sharif to lead the party once more through this trying time was passed during the PML-N Punjab meeting.

It should be mentioned that following his conviction in 2018, the former prime minister was barred from holding any public office.

In the Avenfield and Al-Azizia referrals, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) cleared him on November 29 and December 12, respectively, of last year. The former prime minister ran for office in the General Elections of 2024 and won from NA-130 Lahore after being found not guilty.
