Netflix has renewed the second season of the spinoff series “Berlin,” which is based on “Money Heist.”

The Spanish-language show sets up the events of “Money Heist” (also known as “La casa de papel”) in advance. Similar to the first season of the show, “Berlin” follows Alonso’s character and his group as they attempt to pull off a massive, multimillion dollar theft. In 2025, Season 2 filming will get underway.

When the show debuted, it was the most watched series on Netflix worldwide, ranking in the top 10 in 91 countries. It has 53 million views overall and was in the Top 10 of the non-English TV charts for seven weeks in a row. It is currently the ninth-most-watched non-English Netflix series ever. Álex Pina, the inventor of “Money Heist,” and Esther Martínez Lobato collaborated to produce “Money Heist: Berlin.”

After the enormous success of the original series, Netflix has expanded the “Money Heist” franchise with “Berlin.” The show’s Korean adaptation, “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” made its debut in two parts in June and December 2022, thanks to the streamer.

The Spanish TV show “Money Heist” made its premiere on Antena 3 before Netflix bought the global streaming rights to the series in 2017. The show swiftly rose to prominence all around the world and was one of the most watched non-English language programmes ever.
