Provinces will now have to finance their own public institutions since the Federal Higher Education Commission can no longer support them.
about the nation’s more than 160 public universities, the HEC has asked about Rs 126 billion.
Similarly, the Planning Commission cut the HEC’s development budget from Rs. 59 billion to Rs. 21 billion.

According to letter of the Finance Ministry, the provinces have been asked to arrange funding for their universities at their own.
HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar stated that the universities would suffer greatly as a result of the Ministry of Finance’s correspondence confirming the lowering of the Planning Commission’s development budget and the recurring grant.
He added that he is addressing this issue in letters to the prime minister and the minister of finance. He claimed that the HEC’s budget has dropped from Rs65 billion in 2018 to Rs25 billion.
