Faryal Mehmood’s ‘Wakhri’ Set To Make North American Debut at SXSW

Pakistan’s beloved film “Wakhri: One of a Kind” is all set to have its North American premiere at the esteemed South by Southwest (SXSW) festival on March 8, 2024 – International Women’s Day. Directed by the talented Iram Parveen Bilal, the film first hit screens in Pakistan on January 5 and has quickly become a favorite among audiences.

Abid Aziz Merchant, the film’s producer shared the thrilling announcement on Instagram in a joint post with Iram. “Wakhri will have its North American premiere on International Women’s Day at one of the most prestigious festivals of the world, SXSW, which is considered to be the launching pad for under-the-radar movies,” Abid declared.

SXSW is renowned worldwide for showcasing impactful narratives and pushing the boundaries of creativity. Abid emphasized the significance of “Wakhri” being selected for the festival, stating, “Wakhri is in the spotlight at SXSW and has been featured among unforgettable feature films from around the world. The film will screen four times at the Festival on March 8, 10, and 14.”
