Martin Scorsese co-wrote, produced, and directed the 2023 American epic western murder drama film Killers of the Flower Moon[a]. Screenwriters Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese adapted the narrative from David Grann’s 2017 nonfiction book. After oil was found on tribe grounds, a string of murders of Osage members and their relatives occurred in the Osage Nation during the 1920s in Oklahoma. On their reservation, the tribal people had maintained their mining rights; however, a dishonest local political boss was trying to embezzle the tribe’s riches.
3. Sandra Hüller, “Anatomy of a Fall”
The 2023 French legal drama thriller film Anatomy of a Fall (French: Anatomie d’une chute) is directed by Justine Triet and is based on a script that she co-wrote with Arthur Harari. Sandra Hüller plays a writer who is attempting to clear her name of any involvement in her husband’s passing.

4. Carey Mulligan, “Maestro”
The marriage of American composer Leonard Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre is the subject of the 2023 biographical romantic drama film Maestro. Bradley Cooper directed it based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Josh Singer. Cooper, Fred Berner, Amy Durning, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Kristie Macosko Krieger produced it. Carey Mulligan plays Montealegre in the movie, while Cooper plays Bernstein. Sarah Silverman, Matt Bomer, and Maya Hawke have supporting roles.
5. Emma Stone, “Poor Things”
Yorgos Lanthimos and Tony McNamara are the directors and writers of the 2023 movie Poor Things. Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Abbott, Ramy Youssef, and Jerrod Carmichael are among the actors who star in it. The story, which is based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel, centers on Bella Baxter, a young lady in Victorian London who commits suicide and is later brought back to life by a scientist, setting off on a journey of self-discovery.
