Yusuf Gilani Emphasizes the Ongoing Need for Military Operations

Speaking to reporters here, the PPP chief defended the military’s operations in Malakand and Swat, stating that there was no other choice.

Almost two million individuals who have been impacted by military operations are currently housed in camps, according to Gilani, who also commended the military’s efforts in combating terrorism.
The government announced the Opposition Azm-e-Istehkam to fight terrorism, a move that opposition parties, particularly Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), have resisted.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the Central Apex Committee of the National Action Plan where the operation’s start was declared.

“With the agreement of all stakeholders, including the provinces of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the prime minister approved a reinvigorated and re-energised national counterterrorism campaign through the launching of Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, symbolizing the national resolve to eradicate extremism and terrorism from the country,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement following the meeting.

Yusuf Raza Gilani stated today that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which is in power, has made peace with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and that their concerns have been taken into consideration.

The former prime minister emphasized that they are trying to fortify the administration in order to control the economic situation and that they will join the federal cabinet following discussions with the party. Regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, he pointed out that all parties—including the PTI—are in agreement.
