The recent ban on the export of fresh chilled meat from Pakistan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been attributed to the presence of fungus in a chilled beef shipment.
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment imposed the ban after several containers of substandard fresh beef were reported in Dubai.
Initial investigations suggest that the poor quality of the meat was a result of the inefficient or non-functional refrigeration system in the reefer containers, which is the responsibility of the shipping lines. The concerned exporters have filed damage claims against the shipping line in question.

The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) is actively addressing the ban and has engaged with stakeholders, including seeking a formal meeting with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to present Pakistan’s viewpoint and address concerns comprehensively. TDAP is committed to facilitating fair trade relations between Pakistan and the UAE while upholding international quality and safety standards. The authority is optimistic that through constructive dialogue and cooperation, both nations can find a resolution that allows the resumption of fresh chilled meat exports from Pakistan to the UAE.
