The PBC’s representatives wrote the CJP a letter requesting that the highest senior judge be named the chief justice of the LHC.
Six PBC members signed the letter, which stated that the Chief Justice’s nomination should take seniority into account. According to the PBC, the government is “mulling” the nomination of a younger judge to the position of chief justice of the LHC.
The PBC members contended in the letter that it would be against established judicial precedent to depart from the seniority norm without good cause.
The seniority principle is the only way to preserve the dignity and openness of the judiciary. Transparency is the only way to preserve the public’s confidence in the legal system,” the letter stated.
In a ceremony held at the Governor’s House here earlier on March 8, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan was sworn in as the chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
