The caretaker health minister of Sindh has initiated an inquiry following the circulation of a viral video allegedly depicting three individuals consuming illicit drugs on the premises of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).
The university’s vice chancellor has been instructed to lead the investigation and provide a report within five days.
The video, which has also been broadcast on television channels, captures two female and one male student smoking illicit substances in a DUHS cafeteria.
Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz, the Health Minister, expressed deep concern over this behavior, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the esteemed reputation of medical professionals nationwide, not just in Sindh.

Dr. Niaz underscored the need for immediate action, particularly as such behavior tarnishes the esteemed image of Dow University, known as one of Pakistan’s premier institutions.
Meanwhile, a DUHS spokesperson announced that the university is actively investigating the incident and will take appropriate measures upon the conclusion of the inquiry, including involving law enforcement agencies if necessary.
It’s worth mentioning that the provincial government recently imposed a ban on the use of sheesha and e-cigarettes (vape) in public areas, directing authorities to enforce the Prohibition of Smoking and Protection of Non-Smokers Health Ordinance 2002.
