History and achievements of Pakistan's Men Hockey Team

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) serves as the governing body for hockey within the nation, holding affiliation with the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

Established in 1948 following Pakistan’s independence, the PHF commenced its operations under the leadership of Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan as President and Mr. Baseer Ali Sheikh as Honorary Secretary. The federation’s initial focus on international competitions contributed to the country’s recognition in the hockey world.

Since 1978, the PHF has significantly expanded its national and international activities, overseeing the participation of National Senior, National Junior, and Women’s Hockey Teams. Introducing prestigious tournaments such as the World Cup and the Champions Trophy, the PHF elevated Pakistan’s status in global hockey.

Presently, Brig (r) M. Khalid S. Khokhar serves as President, with Mr. Shahbaz Ahmad Sr. (H.I) as Secretary General of the PHF.

Pakistan’s hockey journey began with its participation in the 14th Olympic Games hockey tournament in London in 1948, where they emerged victorious against Belgium. Ghazanfar Ali Khan and Baseer Ali Sheikh led the PHF as its inaugural President and Honorary Secretary, respectively.

Over time, Pakistan earned a distinguished reputation in international competition, fueling the growth of the federation. However, it wasn’t until the 1960s that a centralized office for the PHF was established.

The National Hockey Stadium in Lahore evolved into the PHF’s Secretariat in 1971, coinciding with Air Marshal Nur Khan’s second term as president. Under his leadership, Pakistan experienced a golden era in hockey, marked by successes in various international tournaments.
