Hafeez responds to Azam Khan's Criticism on Pakistani Coaches

During the ILT20 league, Azam Khan, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Islamabad United, voiced his concerns about Pakistani coaches in an interview. He expressed disappointment that local coaches fail to bring out the best in him and that he lacks sufficient opportunities to showcase his skills on the international stage.

Representing the Desert Vipers in the ILT20, Azam Khan’s impressive performances earned him a spot in the New Zealand series under the guidance of Mohammad Hafeez, who serves as the team director. Azam attributed his success in the Caribbean Premier League to foreign coaches, emphasizing that they focus on his abilities rather than solely critiquing his fitness.

In response, former Pakistan Team director Mohammad Hafeez emphasized the importance of fitness and recalled advising Azam Khan to prioritize it. Hafeez clarified that while Azam’s power-hitting skills earned him a place in the squad, his fitness must also meet the standards of the modern game. Despite encouragement to improve, Azam’s fitness showed no notable progress over two months.

Azam Khan continues to represent Islamabad United in the PSL, albeit the team recently suffered consecutive losses against Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators.
