The newly-elected members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly convened on Friday and elected Ali Amin Gandapur, the nominee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as the Chief Minister of the province. Gandapur secured a solid victory, gathering a total of 90 votes, while his opponent from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ibadullah Khan, received 16 votes.

After his election, Gandapur delivered a determined speech, vowing to address the grievances of PTI workers. He highlighted the need to rectify what he termed as “injustice and cruelty” towards Imran Khan, the PTI founder, and other party members, warning of consequences if his demands were not met.

The newly-elected Chief Minister faces a challenging task, with a commitment to prioritize various sectors, especially minerals and tourism. Gandapur emphasized his government’s intention to use powers granted under the 18th Amendment to serve the interests of the people of KP. He stressed the pursuit of rights for the province’s residents, stating, “We are not begging. We are just asking for our rights,” and hinted at the possibility of a long march if needed.

Ali Amin Gandapur’s rise to the position of Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa marks a significant moment in the province’s political landscape. His leadership will be closely watched as he navigates the challenges of steering the province towards progress while addressing the concerns of its citizens.
