Akbar S. Babar Takes on PTI’s Intra-Party Polls in ECP

Akbar S. Babar, a founding member of the PTI who later fell out with its leadership, has appealed to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the party’s recent “fraud” intra-party election.

Babar later asked that the PTI’s intra-party elections’ results be ruled void in an interview with the media.

Babar stated that 940 voters, or just 0.11 percent the party’s strength, cast ballots in the election.

The results of the intra-party elections were announced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday. The results show that Barrister Gohar was elected PTI chairman without opposition, Omar Ayub Khan was chosen secretary-general and imprisoned, Yasmin Rashid was elected president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Punjab without opposition, and Ali Amin Gandapur was elected president of the PTI KP chapter without opposition.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lost its electoral emblem, the “bat,” on December 22, 2023, as a result of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejecting the petition of founding member Akbar S. Babar, who argued that the intra-party elections were constitutionally challenged.
